Powering through under pressure

This week has been living hell. The inlaws were down and taking up all my drawing time. Not a fun week for me. I did manage to smash together a few toons at the last minute and I think I'm happy with the result, under pressure too.  Pretty cool week despite in laws taking up most of my time but overall fairly successful. Tried a few new things, laughed a lot and drew a few cool toons. Hopefully next week bears more fruit, fingies crossed.

This one is a direct lift from Game of Thrones but I didn't want to make it to obvious, Ned Stark is the angel dude. I don't think it needs a caption or anything to reference it to GoT, heaps of people have done it to death already. Sometimes I just find things funny and have to draw them for the sake of it. Strangely enough I did a toon about Boromir's death in LoTR I might drag it out next week, start a theme.

Arse licking is popular in every line of work. It seems to be how you get to the top. I thought of printing tshirts up with this toon and a big Ass licker quote. I'd get a huge laugh out of seeing that walking around the streets.

The last supper, this is an old idea rehashing famous or iconic pictures in ludicrous ways. Each of the daemons has a little story to him and it makes me laugh. If I had the patients and time I'd paint a huge really detailed version one day. Jesus daemon has the most hardest hard on. LOL.

This one is a reaction to a news article I saw that said something like, “CO2 emissions highest in the history of forever.” And I was like, shit no way crazy. Well I figure that it's got a little bit to do with how we have cut down so many trees and pollute like machines. The guys totally run out of air as he sucks the last gasp, the sapling wilts and the last bird plummets from the sky. Emptiness.
It isn't particularly humorous at all. I get into funny artsy mind sets like all hippy strung out weirdos, and this is the results. Bleak to say the least but I laugh anyway. This is the result of trawling for ideas and hitting on one that works well.

Pushing shit up hill this week.

Two new daemons this week and some other random toons. Big week. I must have drawn for 50+ hours this week and got pretty much jack shit out of the process. Woot. I just couldn't settle on anything all week. Did hundreds of different faces trying to get something interesting, and ditched that in disgust. Nothing worked for me. Moving on....

I spent a lot of time doodling and scribbling with how best to create a more complex well rounded, some would say grown up artistic style, or focus on becoming better with the things you already do well. I feel like trying both, but it turns out I have less than the required patience to improve my realism and perspective yada yada.. but I realise slowly after all that perhaps it actually doesn't matter how you draw, or what you draw, or what you write, but it does have to amuse at least yourself and probably one other person which is kind of cool.

This week has been a real struggle. Having finished with cheeky pigs for now, I am wandering aimlessly around the office trying to think of clever things to draw. Sadly very little fruit so far, but I I squeezed two of these pieces into something resembling art. I like the sort of simplified complexity in these.

So, yeah, pretty lazy week full of torment and depression. Got to get all the terrible ideas and bad art out of my system before I do something really good. If ever I do. How much paper can I waste on this process, quite a bit as it turns out. Loving free A4 printer paper from work bwahaha. The effort will be worth it in the end hopefully.

For the Portfolio

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to come up with an original pig cartoon. I'm not even sure how well I did here. Just google cartoon pigs and see how many different awesome cartoons there are. It must be close to the most drawn animal ever. I gave it a week and smashed out a whole heap of derivative ideas and came up with a look that is both piggy, cartoony and cool. So much you can do with a pig.

This guy reminds me of Bruce Willis in Die Hard or something. Maybe Miss Piggies upset ex lover fallen on hard times. Hillbilly piggy I think fits him nicely, but is there something deeper yet.

Manic Piggy. His mouth is actually bigger than his face. Ermahgurd. So cheesy and refreshing. If not the creepiest piggy in the world.

These last two are holding banners, to fit various title and things, they are designed for catalogues or websites. They work well as stylish borders dwellers. They are very cheeky with a party crown a yellow hat and frilly knickers, what's not to love.

A hero under pressure, whether he's a salespig or a statespig, you can't trust him. His pained smirk and silly body language make him feel a bit tense and frightening.

A sexy pig to heat things up. Absolute beauty right here. She has a knowing look and a strong pose. She doesn't take no for an answer and is no pigs sow. A very strong cartoon.

End of the week round up

Ok so this is the newest demon to fly off my desk, and I think it could be possibly the most ingenious cartoon in the universe. You were always thinking about it anyway although you probably never would have considered it to this extent. Make lemonade while the sun shines my friends!

Demons in angels clothing, or whatever the saying is. Best describes the vast majority of people I've met. Not that we're all that bad, twisted mostly. I note with sadness that I left the wings off the angel, but I think he's in a physical form right now so they aren't visible to the naked eye.

Big enough, bad enough and loud enough you can pretty much do what you like. Perhaps killing millions would suffice. No, oh well. You cannot live the life of a martyr to the false gods. If we some how blend the church with big tobacco nothing could stop them.
